I'm Awake
At 5:40 this morning I was awakened by a happy dog jumping up on my bed and sniffing around. They were quick, short sniffs and the bed was vibrating slightly as if his tail were going back and forth rapidly.
There's nothing wrong with this, except I don't own a dog and I don't have a dog visiting.
Awake, I leaned up in bed listening to the sniffing and trying to sort it out. It could have been rain lightly falling. I even made sure I was awake and that the bed was still slightly vibrating in a happy-dog way; it seemed to be and I keened my ear for the sound of things rattling against the wall in the manner of a small earthquake. Or maybe something slightly swaying back and forth on the wall in a way that would make a sniffing-dog noise.
And I got up. There was no rain falling. I've checked online news and nothing yet about earthquakes.
I don't know what it was.
I refuse to believe that after 2.5 years in this house it's suddenly haunted by a happy dog.
Hey, just as I was getting ready to post this I did one more check.

Well I guess you can't ever say "Oh, I could sleep through an earth quake!" ;o)

I missed it! Didn't think I was that sound of a sleeper...

Sue: I don't suppose it made it as far west as you ... did it?
SGTBM: Up until I saw the news article I was leaning toward a haunting by a happy dog and went to go so far as to imagine he'd died on April 18 one year and that he might haunt me annually. Hey, I was sleepy ... oh, and I took care of some of the accidental quake-related extra comments. :)
Lady P: Didn't you folks have a quake a month back? I can't recall if it was felt south of London. And, I can normally sleep through quite a lot.
Heather D: I think without the 'sniffing' noise I might have slept through it. I'm pretty sure the dog idea came on as I incorporated the sound and movement into a dream and was jarred awake when I remembered I didn't have a dog.

It was felt all the way down here in Nashville. Alas, I slept right through it. :(

It woke me up in the Chicago suburbs, but my next-door neighbors slept through it.

We woke up, immediately knew it was an earthquake, and went out to the cul-de-sac to hang out with our neighbors at 4:34 am. My 11 year old immediately pointed out to all neighbors that "it isn't the initial earthquake that kills most people, it's the aftershocks". Where do they come up with that crap? I'm sure that's reassuring to someone like my 9 year old son. It certainly didn't make me want to go back in the house any sooner!
