Another Sunday

Today, and once again I tell you this so you can writhe in jealousy over the life that is being a single guy:

I popped out of bed at 8:15 a.m.  I was eating breakfast at Mel's at 9. I had eggs, ham, dry English muffin and a pancake rather than the home fries. I also had ice cream with Oreo's and whipped topping (I'd have said 'whipped cream' but I wasn't sure that it wasn't 'whipped creme' and I'm too lazy to check it out.)

I worked out. This is important only because for the past two weeks I've been able to work out per the schedule I try to keep. I'm a much better working-out person when I'm able to keep to a schedule and I find I look forward to the next session then. When I'm working out hit-or-miss it's harder to remain inspired as I feel I'm playing catchup instead of making progress. When you get older you'll understand what I mean.

I bought a new electric hedge trimmer; I lost the other in the divorce. I think the new one is better anyway. It's certainly shinier and today passers-by were inspired to yell at me, "You're one hedge trimming son-of-a-bitch."  That almost never happened with the old trimmers.

I put the trimmer to good use on the tree/bush at the side of the house. About two minutes into the trimming I decided I wanted to take a lot more off the tree/bush that I'd originally thought I would (My original plan called for something reminiscent of an 80's-era Playboy centerfold. I went with a more-recent centerfold version). I want the tree/bush short enough that it doesn't drop leaves on the roof and I thought I'd do some planning ahead — I don't want to be 90 and struggling to trim this plant so I dropped it down low enough that I won't need a ladder to work on it down the road; you know, when the branches would be too thick to work with easily.  Oh, the original point of this paragraph was to say that I eventually picked up a branch-lopper to do the trimming (I used the new trimmers on the bushes out front).

I met my neighbors. They're good folks.

I did some bodywork on the minivan. This is not my strength, but I'm glad I did it. What I thought was surface rust was actually a rust hole.  I went to Pep Boys hoping I'd be able to buy some matching paint and not have to mail order a $20 vial. It looks like I'll be buying the vial.

I went to Auto Zone to buy some Bondo. I bought container of the stuff about two years ago and I couldn't find it; I'm pretty sure I tossed that unopened container earlier this summer in a fit of garage cleaning.

I mowed the yard and took the string trimmer to it as well.

I hopped on the bike with every intention of putting 30 miles on it.  Eleven miles later I was at Auto Zone buying primer to cover my Bondo job (which, when painted, obviously needs a bit more work).  Two miles later I was home painting the minivan. (No, I did not pass through a worm hole to get home from Auto Zone. It's just about two miles from me, not eleven.)

I considered that whenever I'm in Mechanicsburg, London, or Marysville on my bicycle I never think "Ahhhh! It's a 25-mile ride home. Woe is me." No, I just hop on the bike and pedal home. Riding in circles doesn't hold the same appeal and I had to give myself a pep talk to hop back on the bike.

I stopped at McDonald's during the second lap to read and to let the sun go down. There's something sort of nice about riding the bike in the dark. When all was said and done I'd hit 27 miles (so, I'm over 1700 for the year).

I had a spinach salad with salmon when I got home.

I should have showered first.

I've got so much laundry to fold it's just sad. Maybe it'll rain tomorrow and I'll have to stay in.

Delmer Scissorhands.

Does everyone in your neighborhood live in pastel colored houses and only love you for what you can do for them? Tragic.

Yea, and they don't let me anywhere near their waterbeds.
